PRP (platelet rich plasma) is a non-surgical treatment for hair loss in which the scalp is injected with the client’s own blood platelets as obtained from a blood sample. PRP contains a range of growth factors and proteins, helping to accelerate the body’s healing process, with the concentrated platelets thought to stimulate new hair growth.

PRP therapy is a straightforward, non-surgical procedure carried out by a qualified clinician. The treatment uses a small sample of your own blood to extract platelet-rich plasma, a powerful concentration of growth factors that help repair and revitalise dormant hair follicles. The entire process takes around 45 minutes and involves the following key steps:

Blood Collection: A surgeon will extract a blood sample from the patient’s arm and place it in a machine called a centrifuge.

Separation of Platelets: The centrifuge then spins rapidly for roughly ten minutes, separating the different elements of the blood.

Gathering Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP): The separated, concentrated platelets are extracted to form PRP, ready for use.

Injection into Affected Areas: The PRP is meticulously administered into the scalp’s areas affected by hair loss, targeting regions in need of regeneration.

You may experience slight redness or tenderness at the injection sites, which typically settles within a day. Results appear gradually, with most patients noticing improved thickness and density within three to six months. Maintenance sessions can be scheduled to keep your results at their best.

At Aventus Clinic, we understand that while PRP therapy is becoming increasingly accessible across the UK, the quality and efficacy of the treatment vary significantly from one clinic to another. It’s crucial to recognise that not all PRP treatments are created equal. For PRP therapy to be truly effective, it’s generally acknowledged that the concentration of platelets should be at least four to five times higher than that found in normal blood.

This is where Aventus Clinic’s Rejuvence approach sets a new standard. Our advanced methodology and technology surpass the limitations of typical test tube centrifugation systems, ensuring a superior platelet concentration that is pivotal for effective treatment. By choosing Aventus Clinic, you’re opting for a level of precision and care designed to enhance the outcomes of your PRP therapy, leveraging advancements that truly distinguish our approach from others in the field.

Generally PRP requires three treatment sessions, with each session 4-6 weeks apart and top up appointments advised for every 6 months to help sustain new growth. Generally PRP is deemed a cosmetic procedure and is therefore not covered by insurance plans, however you should always double check this in case.

At Aventus Clinic the price of PRP hair treatments starts at £300 per treatment. We want to ensure our clients receive the best possible value without compromising on quality.

How is PRP Hair Treatment Performed?

At Aventus Clinic, our approach to PRP Therapy for hair loss is meticulously tailored to each patient’s unique needs. This detailed procedure is typically comprised of a series of three treatments, spaced 4-6 weeks apart, to maximize hair regrowth potential.

To ensure the utmost comfort for our patients, we administer local anesthesia to the scalp before the treatment. Dr. Alam, our highly skilled surgeon, then carefully injects the PRP into targeted areas of the scalp experiencing hair loss. This precise process is designed to stimulate hair growth and rejuvenate thinning areas.

PROCESS

The PRP Hair Treatment Process

Consultation & Planning

Meet directly with Dr Alam or one of our hair specialists. Together, you’ll assess your hair concerns and create a personalised PRP plan designed to strengthen thinning areas and promote natural regrowth.

The Procedure

A small blood sample is taken and processed to extract the platelet-rich plasma. Using fine injections under local anaesthetic, the PRP is delivered into targeted scalp areas to stimulate and nourish hair follicles.

Recovery & Growth

Most patients resume normal activities straight away. Mild redness or tenderness may occur briefly. Thicker, healthier hair develops gradually, with visible results from around three to six months.

FAQ'S

Frequently Asked Questions

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is a concentration of platelets in plasma, which is part of your blood that is rich in growth factors and proteins that are crucial for tissue healing and regeneration. The process to obtain PRP involves drawing a small amount of your blood, which is then spun in a centrifuge to separate the plasma and platelets from the other components of the blood.

The resulting PRP can be injected into injured tissues or areas where enhanced healing is desired. The high concentration of growth factors in PRP is believed to stimulate the body’s natural healing process, potentially speeding up the repair of damaged tissues. PRP therapy is used in various medical fields, including orthopedics, dentistry, and cosmetic surgery, to treat a wide range of conditions such as sports injuries, osteoarthritis, and hair loss, as well as to promote skin rejuvenation and wound healing.

Patients with generalised hair thinning are often excellent candidates for Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy. If you are in good health and do not have any medical conditions that increase your risk of blood clotting, you may be eligible for this treatment.

The number of separate PRP appointments that a patient requires depends on a variety of factors (such as the extent of the hair loss that they are experiencing), and so different patients will require a different course of sessions. Nevertheless, the average patient requires three separate appointments of PRP therapy, which occur at intervals of 4 to 6 weeks.

To see maximum results from PRP hair treatments, patients will require a top up session once a year. Unlike some of the other hair loss treatments, PRP is not a permanent solution and patients should continue yearly maintenance for long lasting results.

After your treatment, you might notice that your scalp is red with some minor swelling and tenderness. To achieve the best results, we suggest avoiding strenuous activities and not washing your hair for at least 12 hours. Take care of your scalp by avoiding exposure to direct sunlight or any vigorous contact for 24 hours. If you feel discomfort, you can take paracetamol to relieve it.

PRP is a relatively new treatment, although some studies have been carried out with promising results, more tests are required for the evidence to be conclusive. In a recent study, 56 patients received PRP hair loss treatments. Out of the 56 patients 64% of them reported improved hair density, and 48% of them reported less hair loss. The majority vote stated that they would recommend this hair loss treatment to friends.

PRP therapy boosts hair growth without the use of chemicals or medicines. Instead, the treatment works by injecting a patient’s own blood into the scalp, which means that the risk of an adverse reaction is very low. However, any form of injection may cause some swelling, redness and bruising at the injection site, though these symptoms will subside within 3 to 5 days.

Your surgeon will provide you with a full list of aftercare instructions following your PRP hair treatment. For example, you will be advised to avoid strenuous exercise, saunas, steam rooms, swimming and direct sun exposure for two days after the procedure, whilst anti-inflammatory medications (such as ibuprofen or aspirin) should be avoided for three days. Crucially, patients must refrain from drinking, smoking or taking blood thinning agents (such as Cod Liver Oil, Vitamins E and A, or Essential Fatty Acids) for one week after the treatment, as the body is healing at this time.

Following a successful hair transplant, it’s common for physicians to recommend Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy as a treatment to enhance the procedure’s outcomes. PRP therapy is known to potentially increase the survival rate of transplanted hair follicles, while also minimising the degree of shedding experienced post-transplant.

Beyond its efficacy in promoting hair growth and restoration, PRP therapy offers the less frequently discussed advantage of improving skin health. This aspect of PRP treatment can lead to a reduction in the visibility of scarring, thanks to its role in promoting skin healing and regeneration. This dual benefit of PRP therapy not only enhances the aesthetic results of hair transplantation but also contributes to the overall health and appearance of the scalp.
